Dr. Iris Taylor

This artifact is a colour photograph of Dr. Iris Taylor (far left) giving a spontaneous tour of Brimstone Head to visitors on Fogo Island. The photograph's estimated date of origin is 2011.

According to an article from the Official Chronicle of the Flat Earth Society of Canada, Iris Taylor disappeared from Fogo Island in 2018. After making fewer and fewer public appearances over the previous years, she eventually vanished altogether. Her disappearance was especially strange considering the similarities between her disappearance and that of Bartholomew Seeker in 1978. There are no records of either Taylor or Seeker ever actually leaving the island, and both left behind important duties pertaining to their roles as members of the FESC. Taylor was very engaged in research about Seeker’s life during her time on Fogo Island, having acquired many of his belongings that helped piece together information about his role as the Guardian of the Corner. What could she possibly have discovered that would cause her to abandon her research?
